How to Fill Your Jar- Sermon Notes

“How to Fill Your Jar”

Mark 1:35-38

  1. Our praying should be planned.

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he got up” (v. 35).

“In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I plead my case to you and watch expectantly” (Psalm 5:3, CSB).

“I rise before dawn and cry out for help; I put my hope in your word” (Ps. 119:147, CSB).

“He awakens me each morning to listen like those being instructed” (Isa. 50:4, CSB).

  1. Our praying should be private.

“He…went out and made his way to a deserted place” (v. 35).

Jesus “often withdrew to deserted places and prayed” (Luke 5:16, CSB).

“When you pray, go into your private room, shut the door, and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you” (Matt. 6:6, CSB).

3. Our praying should be prolonged.

“…and there he was praying” (v. 35) means, Jesus “continued in prayer.”

“Truly, I tell you, the Son is not able to do anything on His own…” (John 5:19, CSB).
