A letter from Pastor Sid Woodruff regarding New Hope's response to the coronavirus:

In an attempt to limit the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), many churches across Tennessee and the nation have made the hard call to suspend on-campus and off-campus gatherings. This decision amid a rapidly changing crisis is in response to the declarations of state and Federal emergencies.

With much prayer, counsel, and on the advice of the CDC and President Donald Trump, a suspension of all public gatherings is in the best interest of public health. Therefore, effective immediately, ALL midweek (Wednesday) activities, as well as Sunday morning Life Groups and Worship Services at New Hope Baptist Church have been cancelled for two (2) weeks. This is a fluid situation and progress reports are being given hourly. On Monday, March 30, we will assess the situation and determine how to best proceed. We will survive this challenge that comes only a month before Easter.

Worship is central to the mission of the church. Those with the proper spiritual perspective realize stewardship and regular giving are spiritual exercises and reflect our hearts and obedience to God. We have the faith to know God is keeping a watchful eye on all of this. He knows our financial needs, owns everything, and will take care of His children/church, “no matter what!” Please continue to tithe by coming to our website,  and click on “Giving” or mail your tithe to the church at 6010 South New Hope Road, Hermitage, TN 37076.

Our great God is never surprised or over-whelmed. He is the All-Mighty, Sovereign ruler over His creation. Our faith and trust in Him are unshaken and resolute. While I am asking the Lord to halt the spread of disease, I am also praying God will use this disruption to get the attention and save the souls of millions of people who have yet to bow the knee to King Jesus. This disruption to our lives could be the impetus through which God sends a national and worldwide revival.

In the Matchless Name of Jesus,

Pastor Sid Woodruff

Prayer for God’s Victory over the Coronavirus Global Pandemic

In light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic, today, we join with Southern Baptists and other believers around the globe seeking the Lord in unity about four important matters:

(1.) Isaiah 59:1-2 declares, “Indeed, the Lord’s arm is not too weak to save, and His ear is not too deaf to hear. But your iniquities are separating you from your God, but your sins have hidden His face so that He does not listen.”

Prayer: “Almighty God, we humble ourselves before You. Forgive our sins and hear our cry. According to Your mercy, we ask You to stop this global pandemic and save lives, not only in our community but around the world, particularly in places that are unequipped medically to deal with the virus. Give wisdom and guidance to the medical personnel who are dedicating themselves to finding a cure. Heal the sick and protect those caring for the infected. To You, our gracious and All-powerful Creator, we give all praise, honor, and glory. Amen.”

(2.) Romans 13:1-4 says, “Let everyone submit to the governing authorities, since there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are instituted by God. So then, the one who resists the authority is opposing God’s command, and those who oppose it will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but bad. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have its approval. For it is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, because it does not carry the sword for no reason. For it is God’s servant, an avenger that brings wrath on the one who does wrong.”

Prayer: “Our Father in heaven, we acknowledge You as the Only True Sovereign over this world and all that is in it. We lift up President Donald Trump and other international, federal, state, and local government leaders, asking You to give them the wisdom to direct us in the best courses of action for prevention and care. We offer our requests in Your great name. Amen.”

(3.) In Psalm 90:12 we read, “Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts.”

Prayer: “Lord, give us wisdom in this moment of fear as the foundations of what we know are shaken, that others would realize how fragile life is and how real eternity is. Open the eyes of their hearts so that they may see their need to turn to God through His Son, Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.”

(4.) In Mark 16:15, Jesus commands us to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”

Prayer: “Lord Jesus, we ask You to protect our missionaries and their families around the globe. Use this global crisis to advance the Good News to the whole world. In the exalted name of Jesus, the name that is above every other name, we offer our petition. Amen.”
